The Latest Trends in In Vitro Allergy Testing

Speaker : Natalia Reoutova

Sponsored by : Alkor Capital

Summary: Our immune system is essential to defending against disease, but normally protective immune mechanisms can sometimes cause detrimental hypersensitivity reactions. Allergy is a condition caused by hypersensitivity of the immune system to something in the environment that does not affect most people. There are several types of hypersensitivity reactions, including acute and late-phase responses. Those food allergy patients who suffer from acute hypersensitivity in addition commonly present with a delayed response.

In these cases, specific allergen identification is hindered by the delay between exposure and the onset of allergy symptoms making IgG testing a vital diagnostic tool. Liquid allergen testing kits offer the advantage over solid-phase allergen tests by allowing the researcher to tailor an array of suspected allergens to each individual patient enabling a timely and precise diagnosis.

Essential of Temperature Mapping Qualification

Speaker : Mohamad Faris Hisham

Sponsored by : Tech-Lab Manufacturing Sdn Bhd

Summary: Good manufacturing practice (GMP) regulators have sharpened their focus on warehouse storage and distribution practices. Driving this trend is a shift in regulatory thinking from quality-by-test to quality-by-design systems with emphasis on level of risk to product quality and patient safety.

A temperature mapping exercise is required for any space allocated for the storage and handling of products with a specified labelled storage temperature. This includes freezer rooms, cold rooms, temperature-controlled storage areas, quarantine areas and receiving and loading bays. It also include laboratories.

All mapping exercises should be fully documented in order to demonstrate compliance to management, clients and the regulatory authorities. Testo will cover the steps for successful mapping. With these, it will demonstrate to the regulatory inspector that your company is GMP/GDP compliant.

"At 15 Minutes All Done" : Non-Touch Surface Disinfection for Operation Theatre & Isolation Room

Speaker : Datuk Dr. Ahmad Shukri

Sponsored by : ANSR Sanuvox

Summary: Bacteria, bacterial spores and viruses are shed from infected and/or colonized patients or staff into the hospital environment, especially into areas in the vicinity of patients and surfaces frequently touched by staff hands (termed “high-touch surfaces”). Respiratory tract infections and diarrhoea have a particularly high risk of widespread contamination. Some bacteria species including VRE, MRSA and Acinetobacter species, can survive for 4–5 months or more on dry surfaces, and noro virus can survive for up to one week.

The levels of surface contamination by microorganisms in hospitals are low in comparison to the concentrations on patient skin or in stools. However, there is a risk of transmission even at low concentrations. Good evidence of the importance of environmental transmission is provided by a number of studies showing an increased risk of infection in patients admitted to side rooms previously occupied by other infected cases. The importance of surface contamination shown by the reduction in the rate of healthcare-associated infections when effective measures of environmental hygiene are implemented, but unfortunately the coverage surface area of decontamination still low and require technology to improve.Ultraviolet sterilisation for terminal surface disinfection showed a complimentary tools to our current existing manual surface cleaning using chemicals for disinfection.

Sanuvox Ultraviolet Sterilisation for Tuberculosis as per Centre For Disease Control (CDC) Guidelines

Speaker : Datuk Dr. Ahmad Shukri

Sponsored by : ANSR Sanuvox

Summary: Transmission of tuberculosis (TB) is a recognized risk to patients and healthcare workers in healthcare settings. The literature review suggests that implementation of combination control measures reduces the risk of TB transmission. Central Of Disease Control (CDC) guidelines suggest a three-level hierarchy of controls including administrative, environmental, and respiratory protection.

Among environmental controls, installation of ventilation systems is a priority because ventilation reduces the number of infectious particles in the air. Natural ventilation is cost-effective but depends on climatic conditions. Supplemented intervention such as air-cleaning methods including high efficiency particulate air filtration and ultraviolet germicidal irradiation should be considered in areas where adequate ventilation is difficult to achieve. In this session, we will discuss about practical issues and cost effective solution in controlling the transmission of tuberculosis in healthcare environment facilities.
